Self-Confidence and What Mom Said

Maybe Mom was right about saying "thank you", and likely you would not fail to thank someone for saying or doing something nice for you.
Of course not.

Now let's take Mom's advice and apply it to yourself, but in an orderly and organized plan. Not in your head, but with pen and paper, it is time to thank yourself for each recent success.

List your successes and give a star where you succeeded because of your growing self-confidence.
Reading that list everyday, perhaps in the morning as you set your goals for the day, is a good idea and the very basis for building more self-esteem and self-confidence.

This is the way to truly believe in yourself by acknowledging on paper each important victory. Doesn't the sport section of any daily paper list all the victories of various teams and then go into detail as to who the most valuable players were in each game?

You are the most valuable player in your life and the daily affirmation of reading your list of successes and reasons for self-confidence will help you battle negative self-talk and grow
the deserved esteem you should feel for yourself.

There is no doubt others will notice and be
very favorably impressed and more attracted to you. You'll soon be getting even more invitations.

Vital Self-Esteem Enriches Life

Developing more self-confidence and self-esteem has been a consistent theme of this blog.
There are so many reasons why that is important and why it's the best gift you can give yourself today or any day.

Like winning a race or getting an A+ on a final exam, it just makes you feel good and so much better about yourself. Those good feeling allow you to face the next challenge, problem or opportunity with more strength and self-assurance to insure your next victory.

So, today and in the coming days in this blog we'll develop a plan, a paint by the numbers, if you will, to be certain you are becoming more confident and feeling more self-esteem each day. It will be fun and feel almost as good as winning that race.

First, you should learn to be alert to the self-talk that goes on in your head, as it does in everyone's brain. If the conversation is negative, if you see you're putting yourself down or calling yourself negative names, the stop. Stop when you hear that negativism and oppose it with the facts about your own worthy self. You deserve to love yourself first among all people.

Next, promise yourself to silence the inner critic, which perhaps you learned from too severe parenting or wherever. Oppose that negative self-talk by building yourself up as a coach on a sports team would build up his players in the locker room. Root for your self. Be your own best cheerleader.

More suggestions to come in the next blog, as to how you will learn to admire and appreciate your inner hero and live that for all to see. Why not, it's very attractive. Your friends may think you got a new hair style or started working out more. You will be more attractive for all to see.

The Secret to Getting What you Want

The secret to getting what you want out of your day begins
with a clear understanding of what you feel you deserve.

This is based on what we talked about earlier, the importance
of self-respect, self-esteem and self-confidence. All of these
things incline one to feel deserving of the best: joy, kindness
and success.

This is what number 4 on the daily To Do List is all about and
the pursuit of the necessary attitude will be discussed more
later.

It is vital to have a plan for the day's joys and successes and
part of that comes from number 5, where commitment is
mentioned as important to getting what you want each day.

More will be said about this commitment later and how to
achieve it, but the reminder now is to remember that all
have to learn some days to want what they get in life, as
surely as one proceeds to plan and commit to getting, as
much as possible of what one wants.

All of this, of course, begins with a sweet and effective
beginning to each day.

More thoughts on the To Do List

Last week we looked at the importance
of a "sweet beginning" for your day and
the self-confidence inventory. Both of
these are from the daily "to do list."

Today I want to encourage you to look
at number 3 on the list.

3 Top 5 reasons you have to be happy
about the opportunities today and how
you intend to bring success to the day.

Only you can determine your specific
reasons, but I urge you to think deeply
and come up with appropriate ones.

Think on these as your day is beginning,
and you will find goal setting simpler.

Here are some reasons for happiness that
I have chosen in the form of quotes from
some great minds:

A happy life must be to a great extent a quiet life, for it is only in an atmosphere of quiet that true joy dare live.
- Bertrand Arthur William Russell

Anything you're good at contributes to happiness.
- Bertrand Arthur William Russell

Man needs, for his happiness, not only the enjoyment of this or that, but hope and enterprise and change.
- Bertrand Arthur William Russell

A happy woman is one who has no cares at all; a cheerful woman is one who has cares but doesn't let them get her down.
- Beverly Sills

Happiness is mostly a by-product of doing what makes us feel fulfilled.
- Benjamin Spock
